This week The Newland Smith team talks to artist and East Delray local Renee Phillips on why she loves this “Village by the Sea”.
What do you love about where you live?
I love the sense of community that comes with living in East Delray. There are so many friendly faces, and after moving down from NYC in 2018, it’s so great to be part of a smaller community where the local coffee shop knows my name and favorite pastry (shout out to
Two Fat BrEGGfast! – whipped iced coffee + guava cheese pastry please). Also, being able to bike or golf cart to the beach and downtown Delray is a huge lifestyle enhancement. I can’t help but smile when I’m on my golf cart. His name is Woody by the way;)

Renee’s favorite mode of transportation is her golf cart “Woody”.
What is your favorite restaurant?
The Grove. The only thing I truly missed about NYC was the food, and then I found The Grove! It’s off the Ave, has stellar food and fantastic ambiance. I also love grabbing a pastry at the French Bakery on my way to the art studio.

Renee loves The Grove’s amazing food and ambience.
Favorite place to meet friends?
Our house. My husband and I turned our front yard into a beach. We pulled out a jungle of Monstera, had two truck loads of sand dumped, and took our time building out landscaping, a fire pit, swings and lounge chairs – it’s our little oasis to host friends and family. There’s no place like home.
Favorite spot to grab coffee?

Two Fat BrEGGfast’s whipped coffee has a cult-like following.
What is your favorite specialty store?
I love B
edners Market on NE 3rd Ave. They have exceptional local produce, flowers, herbs and more. And I can’t forget
Hand’s –my go-to shop for art supplies, paper products and gifts. With Christmas on the horizon, this is my one stop stocking stuffer store.

Bedner’s in Delray Beach.
Neighborhood hidden gem?
The Arts Warehouse. The Arts Warehouse provides working artist studios for over 14 local artists, holds creative community events and workshops, and features exceptional gallery exhibitions for both local and international artists. It is a wonderful sense of community and we open our doors to the public every 1st Friday of the month for the “1st Friday Art Walk”.

You know you’re a local if…
You know where to find golf cart parking.
